Homes & Gardens Fabric Awards 2014: Winning style

Best Wallpaper Under £40 a Roll – What we think…

The best thing about this wallpaper to us is the price point. Even though it is called brushstrokes we see no interest in this design. The pattern is uninviting nor is the colour palette. To us, there are many more wallpapers out there under £40 that we would rather give this award to. For example, Blendworth’s Chirpy wallpaper, at £36 a roll we think this is a real bargain. With great colours and interesting details we think that this should have been placed at the top of the list.

Best Fabric Collection – What we think…

This collection is fantastic. Even though mulberry prices are towards the higher end, with this collection you pay for quality and individuality. The range of colours and designs means there is something for everyone. From plains & checks to bohemian prints, you can use this collection for any room. We completely agree with Homes & Gardens – Best Fabric Collection. However, our runner up would be James Hare Pimlico.  A small collection but cleverly packed full of an exciting  mix of fabrics from subtle embroideries to colourful contemporary stripes.

Best Printed Fabric – What we think…

We find it very hard to believe that this is the best printed fabric that Homes & Gardens have found over the last year. The design is uninspiring and the price point is far from appealing. ‘Dove’ from Lewis & Wood on the other hand is beautiful and deserves this prize. Soft palettes and an interesting design: a very ‘user friendly’ fabric. However, we much prefer the runner up: Corendius from Colefax & Fowler’s Baptista collection. The colours are much more interesting and the design is more intricate.

Best Fabric under £35 a metre – What we think…

So to be pedantic £35 is not under £35 – however this design is interesting & is a great price, so we can forgive the error and agree that this is a worthy fabric and at that price we like it even more.  We believe that Villa Nova Orta & Casadeco Effet Matiere (a double width fabric) should have also been placed.

Best Embroidered Fabric – What we think…

Tobago is a beautiful fabric and in this case quality is everything. You may be put off by the price but the detail and the work that goes into this fabric is phenomenal. We can, therefore, understand why this fabric has been chosen, however it lacks in versatility. The No77 Interiors ‘Best Embroidered Fabric’ would be Jane Churchill’s Plato at £79. It is a great price and has a beautiful design. It is an all round outstanding fabric, with a mixture of soft and bold colours. Our runner up would be Mulberry Dress Circle because we just love it. It does what it says on the tin – bold and beautiful.
